The synthesis, purification, and characterization of a series of chlorine substituted cobalt acetylacetonate complexes was explored. Four new complexes with the general formula of Co(acac)<sub>x</sub>(acac-Cl)<sub>3-x</sub> were synthesized through addition of varied amounts of acac and acac-Cl ligands. The complexes were easily purified through column chromatography. The complexes were characterized spectroscopically with UV-vis, ATR-FTIR, and NMR and the structural identity was confirmed through single crystal X-ray diffraction.
