Controlling the transformation of syngas to specific aromatics is a big challenge. In this research, over a composite catalyst of Mn-modified ZnAlO oxide and impregnated H-ZSM-5, we obtained a high CO conversion of 54% with 64% tetramethylbenzene selectivity, meanwhile studied the relationship between conversion and distribution of aromatics. Preferably at a 1: 3 Zn/Al ratio based ZnAlO oxide catalyst, different metals (Mn, Cu, Cr, Ce, Fe) and different amounts are loaded to adjust CO conversion. The activity of methanol catalyst altered product distribution, owing to the combined result of aromatization and alkylation with the amount of methanol and dimethyl ether over the acid sites in zeolite. The trace co-feeding of methanol in syngas promotes the formation of tetramethylbenzene. A reaction pathways were speculated from relationship between the amount of intermediate products and aromatics product distribution.
