Room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) has been recently greatly developed and exploited in various applications ranging from sensors to light-emitting diodes or even for biological imaging. High phosphorescence of organic materials at room temperature requires efficient intersystem crossing (ICS), fast phosphorescent decay and absence of non-radiative decay. One way to favor RTP is to rigidify the phosphorescent units within a polymeric structure. Based on our experience with triarylamine based self-assembled supramolecular structures, we designed and synthesized a triarylamine trisamide (TATA-BrNp) molecule bearing 4-bromo-1,8-naphthalimide (BrNp) as phosphorescent unit on one of its side chain. Thanks to π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding interactions, this molecule should lead to the formation supramolecular polymers, which could suppress the non-radiative decay and result in RTP. Our study shows that TATA-BrNp can self-assemble into fibrillar structures and demonstrate phosphorescent feature at low temperature. Furthermore, we also found out that TATA-BrNp exhibit red emission at room temperature.
