The metabolic respiration reactions in live organisms results in the formation of Oxygen and Nitrogen containing free radicals. The positive as well as negative effects due to concentration and up-down regulation studied in depth. Their function as signalling molecules has been known as well. Nevertheless, their detection remains a challenge due to their low concentration, high reactivity, and short lifetime in biological settings. Electrochemical sensors have shown quite a lot of advantages over conventional reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Reactive Nitrogen Species(RNS) detection methods. This poster presentation covers our recent results in the development and use of electrochemical microelectrodes for in vivo detection of nitric oxide (NO) as it is a well-known biomarker of oxidative stress. The use of zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos as a biological model demonstrates the <i>in vivo</i> applicability of the sensor. Nitric oxide was quantified at single organ level <i>in vivo</i> .There was no perturbation beyond electrode insertion. Fluorescence imaging and pharmacological manipulation further verified our sensor’s results.
