The influence and impact of Vicente Talanquer on chemistry education is extensive. This presentation aims to provide an overview of how and what he has shaped in understanding and promoting student reasoning in chemistry. The presentation focuses on both practice and research, beginning with the origin of the Chemical Thinking curriculum. The basic premises of the curriculum are followed by a brief history of how the curriculum has grown in efficacy and reach. The Chemical Thinking framework derives from the practice of teaching and learning with the curriculum and from learning theories and philosophy of chemistry. The framework and a synthesis of findings from research based on it are recapped, particularly focusing on students’ development of reasoning in chemistry, and the increasing extent of the framework’s use in chemistry education.
