Renewable energy applications became an important area of research because of environmental concerns and limited fossil fuel resources. In this regard, electrochemical supercapacitor and CO2 capture became two important topics because of their role in short-term power supply and reducing CO2 footprint, respectively. In this presentation, I will discuss the synthesis of economical carbon-based nanomaterials having ultramicropores/micropores. Thereafter, I will provide examples how these materials simultaneously resolved key concerns for supercapacitor applications such as (a) ion accumulation inside the nanopores, (b) electrical conductivity, (c) ion diffusion, and (d) wettability towards the improvement of specific capacitance and energy density.1-3 I will also provide examples that carbon-based materials are having narrow pores lead to high CO2 adsorption with excellent selectivity.4
