Clays have been used for several beauty applications through out history. The ancient Egyptians as well as Indians and the Babylonean civilization had many beauty as well as health regimens centered around clays and related material. In an era when the line between beauty and health slowly merging, material such as clays and carbon black are gaining more importance in the beauty industry. In this talk we will discuss broad applications of clay based material in beauty care and its associated sustainability. We will discuss the impact of clay-polymer composites and meta structures on the performance of b select product benefits. Further, we will discuss few mechanistic aspects of performance. Clays ranging from Smectites to Nano-tubural strucures and their composites of both synthetics and natural polymers and surfactants will be reviewed. Some aspects of consumer perception globally will also be covered.
