Since early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted essentially every aspect of life in the United States and the world at large. Among the affected areas has been higher education, which was forced to abruptly transition to an online environment in mid-March of 2020 and, in many cases, has largely stayed there as the pandemic has raged on. Needless to say, the online transition presented a variety of challenges and the necessity for immediate adaptations, as well as the need for longer-term changes going forward. Nowhere was this adjustment more complex than in the sciences, with much of the curriculum devoted to in-person, laboratory-based coursework as the heart of its various disciplines.<br/><br/>Presented herein is an overview of the strategies and techniques employed by the Chemistry faculty at Harford Community College in taking the General Chemistry series from a face-to-face setting to an online environment. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the courses have been maintained in this environment through the subsequent Summer, Fall, and current Spring semesters. Also presented is how resources developed for the online environment may ultimately be used to enrich and supplement coursework in the eventual return to face-to-face learning.
