We believe that chemistry should be for everyone but sadly our recent research has shown that the chemical sciences are not yet a fair and welcoming environment for all. Our report Is Publishing in the chemical sciences gender biased? revealed that differences exist at each step of the publishing profile and their combined effect puts women at a significant disadvantage when publishing their research and in turn progressing their research careers. As a result of this analysis and as part of our continued strategy on inclusion and diversity we committed to increase transparency, reflect our research community, empower and innovate and encourage intervention. Our new Framework for action in scientific publishing is a practical reference guide that sets the standard for driving change, and we have now partnered with 31 other publishing organisations representing over 11,800 journals. Collectively we are working to understand our research community, reflect the diversity of our community, share success to achieve impact and set minimum standards on which to build change. By working together, we will become more effective in driving positive change within scholarly publishing and we invite and encourage other publishers to join us. Through many of our actions, our goal outlined in our I&D strategy to 2025, is to increase the diversity of people choosing and fulfilling their potential in the chemical sciences for a truly inclusive community.
