The organic two-semester undergraduate course at a public urban university began a new design about four years before the COVID-19 pandemic. Open Education Resources (OER), Flipped Classrooms, Backward Design, and curricular changes made through the lens of the Anchoring Chemical Concepts Map (Examinations Institute of ACS) were key components of the new approach. The onset of the campus closure in the spring of 2020 impacted the adaptation plan. These strategies provided a seamless transition from in-person to virtual classroom. The developed classroom activities and their interface with new technologies will be discussed in this presentation. The talk will also predict how the virtual successes could impact curriculum upon the return to in-person teaching in the near future.
