Our primary goal is to get the chemistry students and faculty of EOU to interact with the community and share their knowledge about chemistry through activities in a fun, safe, and interactive learning environment. The EOU Chemistry Club organized and participated in events such as Girls in Science, the Lego Robotic Tournament, Science Fairs, teaching elementary school labs, and performing magic shows. Therefore, we were able to show the Eastern Oregon community the dynamics of chemistry and how it is present in many aspects of everyday life. We also feel that by organizing so many events, we kept the majority of our members engaged in the club activities. Our members are enthusiastic about chemistry and want to inspire young kids, particularly those that do not have the opportunity to be involved with hands-on chemistry experiences in their schools. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unique challenges and opportunities for us to expand our presence in the virtual space, with our members making at-home chemistry videos with household objects through the spring and summer and with us doing, one of our largest events of the year, Girls in Science online.
