<br/><br/>Planetary systems are formed in dense interstellar clouds. Comets are the most pristine objects in the Solar System and compositional studies, from ground and space, especially of organic molecules, isotopologues, and ortho-para ratios can provide important clues as to a possible connection between interstellar and cometary matter. I will review the inventory of complex molecules found in the interstellar medium, the various models put forward to explain their formation, and their relationship to cometary molecules.
