Nanometric metal oxides have many applications due to their extremely promising surface chemistry, varying morphology, and high surface area. The variation of surface properties makes metal oxides widely useful in different fields. One approach to measure their surface acidity and basicity is their use as catalysts in organic reactions in which the products are different on acidic catalyst sites from those formed on basic sites. This can provide information about whether the surface acts as an acid, a base, or both and the relative contribution of these sites. Morphology is also a parameter that is dependant on the method of metal oxide preparation that has a major influence on the properties of metal oxide nanoparticles. Herein, single source precursors based on pyruvic acid oxime complexes of iron, cobalt, zinc, were used to prepare bimetallic oxides with varying metal ratios. These metal oxides show excellent reactivity in which basic sites are the predominant reactive sites.
