In the last few decades, the field of modern coordination chemistry has vastly expanded as the new polynuclear metal complexes have enriched the inventory for a variety of potential applications. These complexes often possess aesthetically pleasing structures, unique supramolecular architectures, and interesting magnetic properties such as single-molecule magnetism (SMM). These SMMs can act as smart magnetic materials possessing both classical and quantum features which make them ideal candidates to be integrated into devices like spintronics, quantum computing, and magnetic storage. To create building blocks of such magnets, multiple metal ions supported by organic ligand precursors are necessary. In this regard, the aromatic <i>N</i>-oxide ligands are of particular interest because they can potentially bind multiple metal ions via chelating and bridging modes through O atoms. Previous studies reportedly used such ligands in the field of catalysis or metal-organic framework, however, their use in synthesizing magnetic materials is rare. Herein, we will report initial reactions using such ligands with lanthanide metal ions in presence of rarely explored bulky carboxylate ligands followed by spectroscopic and structural characterization of the synthesized complexes.
