The field of medicine has incorporated nanotechnology in disease prevention, detection, diagnosis and many of its treatments. Nanofiber technology has the potential to enhance treatment of burn victims. Nanofibers have been used as scaffolds for tissue engineering, artificial wound coverings and drug delivery. Using electrospun fibers, the aim was to make a biodegradable, antimicrobial bandage for burn or skin damaged accident type wounds. Polymers such as chitosan, and sodium alginate are promising in producing nanofibers and are easy to electrospin. Nanofibers infuse with antimicrobial manuka honey and silver sulfadiazine, were prepared collected and tested. Different nanofibers that are biocompatible and biodegradable were identified to be prepared and tested for their ability to be used as artificial bandages.
