Green and effective removal of nondegradable dyes from textile industry wastewater is in urgent demand since the significant harms generated to aquatic ecosystems and human beings. However, most widely used adsorbents need high energy consumption for fabrication and hardly perform in harsh environments. Herein, the silk fibroin film (SF) based bioadsorbent was prepared and evaluated for textile dyeing wastewater remediation in this work. The experimental results exhibited extraordinary strong acid and alkalis resistance via the proposed formic acid-based fabrication process, which can achieve all of hash real wastewater treatment requirements (pH 1~13). Moreover, the prepared SF films exhibited relatively high adsorption capacities toward all types of water-soluble textile dyes. The maximum adsorption capacity of the proposed SF film outperformed most of the current adsorbents and reached up to 174.48mg/g (for reactive dye reactive blue 4). On the other hand, the SF films also showed good removal efficiency of dye chelated with heavy metals Hg2+ (86% for 2.4mg/L) and Cr6+ (78% for 2.0mg/L). Last but most important, the adsorption isotherms and kinetics of SF film followed the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics and reached the theoretically maximum adsorption capacity of 185.53mg/g. In summary, a novel renewable SF film-based bioadsorbent for dyeing wastewater remediation was successfully fabricated and exhibited high adsorption capacity and excellent strong acid and alkalis resistance, which opens a new window for the green and effective dyeing wastewater treatment.
