As part of the Affordable Learning Georgia Textbook Transformation grant, our team has compiled free textbook and supplementary materials for Comprehensive General Chemistry course (CHEM 1310) for Engineering majors by curating and modifying content from OpenStax textbook and hosted the textbook on the University’s <i>libguides</i> platform. These materials are designed to encourage students to look into the materials for relevant information and guidance rather than incoherent probing of the internet. These free supplemental materials provide all the relevant information to various forms of problem solving by including videos and interactive simulations for key learning objectives of the course material. In our presentation, we will discuss various steps involved in our textbook transformation process, the <i>libguides</i> platform and various Open Educational Resources (OER) available on the internet. Our project also involves research component to measure the usage of the textbook resources and their impact on student success by comparing survey data and final exam data from semesters before and after transformation (Fall 2019 and Spring 2020, respectively).
