Introductory chemistry students often perceive mathematics and chemistry to be extremely different fields. Yet, a solid foundation in mathematics helps in understanding chemistry, especially at the advanced level. Here we present exercises and solutions for calculus and introductory chemistry courses which show how the two fields complement each another. Our hope is that these exercises will highlight the importance of mathematics in chemistry and encourage more students to study further in mathematics beyond the typical courses required for the chemistry major.
