Microplastics have been discovered in a variety of environments ranging from arctic ice and ocean water to inland environments. While microplastic concentrations within marine bodies have been extensively studied, those of freshwater systems have received less attention. This investigation aims to ascertain the concentration, size distribution, and possible sources of microplastics within the fresh water of Utah Lake. Utah Lake is a shallow, inland lake with a surface area of approximately 380 km<sup>2</sup>, located in Utah, USA.  Utah Lake provides irrigation water to the most populous areas of Utah State. In an effort to determine the distribution of microplastics within this water system, surface samples of lake water were collected in strategic regions which varied by both proximity to urban activity and agricultural activity. The concentrations and particle sizes of microplastics were determined by means of light microscopy. The resultant data allow for the correlation of microplastic concentrations with likely sources, such as urban run-off, waste-water treatment, and landfills.
