Metal ions are beneficial to various life processes. However, excess exposure to these ions often has deleterious consequences. For this reason, there has been extensive research on cost-effective ways to detect metal cations in a selective and sensitive manner. Chemosensors have proven to be useful in this area as they interact with targeted analytes to generate a distinct response, typically a colorimetric or fluorescent signal. In recent times, the potential of triazoles to serve as good chemosensors has gained much attention due to their useful photophysical characteristics. Our research is focused on the synthesis of a triazole-based compound, 8-(4-Phenyl-1,2,3-Triazol-yl)Quinoline [QTP] which has shown potential in the selective fluorometric detection of Cu2+. Investigations to uncover the interaction mechanism of QTP and quantify its selectivity and sensitivity with a range of metal ions were conducted using Fluorescence, Ultra-violet (UV-Vis) absorption, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy.
