Resolving the relative polarization, phase, frequency and time of arrival of an emitted photon stream from a material informs us on the fundamental photophysics which underlie material properties. However, extracting information from the photon stream involves tradeoffs between spectral resolution, throughput, and experiment time which often limit our ability to resolve complex dynamics in spectrally heterogeneous mixtures. I will discuss our advances using Mach-Zehnder interferometry and superconducting nanowire single photon detectors to examine photons across the visible and into the shortwave infrared (1-2 microns). Our novel spectroscopic approach leverages the coherence length of fluorescence to spectrally distinguish signals in time-correlated single photon counting. We will show how this approach allows us to probe the photophysics of chromophore mixtures, and ultimately resolve the absolute photon economy of multiple electronic states.
