Oxygen vacancy as one of the common defect types in TiO2, it endows the pristine UV-responsive TiO2 with visible-light harvesting ability. Thus, for developing oxygen vacancy-rich titania via a green and effective way, we choose large-size heteroatom strontium to fabricate abundant oxygen vacancies in titania through lattice mismatch effect. The sample with the Sr content of 1.3 wt % exhibits photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) rate at 1092 μmol h−1 g−1 under visible light illumination.
