An investigation of an air-based system, BaO~2~/BaO redox couple, along with a significant material development study for long term solar energy storage has been performed. An air-based system has the potential to streamline the process and reduce the capital cost for solar energy utilization. Energy storage capacity and stability of commercial BaO~2~ and BaO~2~ made by co-precipitation method were compared. The effect of calcination environment during synthesis on sample purity was evaluated. MgO-stabilized BaO~2~ was investigated for improving the longevity and reactivity of the redox materials. The effect of different loading of MgO was studied and it was found out that with increasing amount of MgO, the stability and reactivity of BaO~2~ increases while the energy storage density will decrease. 15wt% MgO/BaO~2~ exhibits the greatest stable energy storage with a value of 338 kJ/kg. Both short term (25 cycles) and long term (200 cycles) redox cycles were studied. Different techniques such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), X-Ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) and SEM/EDS were used to study the material properties. The proposed material matrix was able to operate longer cycles without deactivation, demonstrating the suitability of such system for solar thermochemical energy storage.

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
