Recognizing the Community Service and ASME contributions

of Dr. Satish Kandlikar

 

It will be my pleasure to share the spectacular outreach history of Satish.  I have known Satish, and benefited from his energy and wisdom for forty years.  In speaking about his contributions, I represent the *ASME Rochester Senior Section*, as well as the *Rochester Engineering Society*, I am a fellow RIT faculty member, where he also served as *Faculty Adviser* to the *ASME Student Chapter*, and I have been a student of his Heat Transfer Classes.

This paper will describe his efforts in creating the *E^3^ Fair*, exposing thousands of Rochester area Middle School students to STEM, on the highest levels, long before the STEM acronym existed.  This initiative is, this year, celebrating its 30^th^ Anniversary.

In 2008 Satish was awarded the *Rochester Engineer of the Year* by the *Rochester Engineering Society*.

Satish is also a recipient of the *ASME Distinguished Service Award*, and has contributed enumerable Heat Transfer Presentations and Workshops, internationally, Within the *ASME*.

We will also talk about Satish’s STEM initiative *Beyond 9.8*, where, each year, a new group of students visit sixteen *RIT* Engineering Labs. This program is in its seventh year.  Such technical exposure has surely impacted the career-path decisions of hundreds of young adults.

                Satish is also involved with the RIT *Engineers of Color Creating Opportunities* Center, providing diversity initiatives to under-represented engineering students.

                Most importantly, I will share with you the impact Satish’s personal philosophy and outlook-on-live in general, has had on all those he serves.

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
