The liquid-liquid two-phase flow characteristics of a serrated T-type microchannel with a cross section of 500 μm × 415 μm were studied by high-speed camera and Canny algorithm. The silicone oil was used as the dispersed phase, while the distilled water containing 0.5% SDS was the continuous phase. The results show that the flow patterns in the straight channel are mainly slug flow, transitional flow, and droplet flow. In the microchannels with expansion–contraction cavities, based on the dimensionless droplet length, the flow pattern is categorized as mountain shape flow and ellipsoid flow. As the volume flow of the two phases increases, the droplet length gradually decreases, and the flow pattern in the microchannel gradually changes from the mountain shape flow to the ellipsoid shape flow. Compared with the straight channel, the length of the droplet in the reentrant cavities microchannel changes periodically. The amplitude in reentrant cavities microchannel is 3 to 5.6 times of that in the straight channel. As the flow rate of the continuous phase increases, the amplitude and period of the variation in the length of the droplet gradually decrease. Dimensional droplet expansion area increases with the increase of the volume flow rate ratio of the dispersed phase to the continuous phase, and decreases with the increase of the continuous phase Capillary number.

About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
