This presentation will give a summary of my interactions with Prof. Satish Kandlikar over the past twenty years which were intimately connected with our respective research on two-phase flow and flow boiling in microchannels. In the mid 1980’s, boiling heat transfer and two-phase flow and in compact heat exchangers started to attract attention and interests in small channels started to grow among heat transfer researchers. Prof. Kandlikar and I were also among them and both of our groups started conducting research in those areas. About a decade later, our interests converged and the first International Conference on Microchannels and Minichannels (ICMM) was held in Rochester, NY, in 2003. I hosted the ICMM in Toronto, Canada in 2005, where Prof. Kandlikar suggested adding Nanochannels to the conference scope. From 2006 on, this conference was named the International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels and Minichannels (ICNMM). Over the past twenty years, my collaborators and I have focused mostly on adiabatic two-phase flow in microchannels and presented a total of 23 papers at ICMM and ICNMM. In this symposium in honor of Prof. Kandlikar, our past intetactions with him and the highlights of our microchannel research focusing on adiabatic two-phase flow will be presented.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
