Flow visualization is a valuable tool for interpretation of the interactions of the flow structures with an oscillating body and to clarify the fluid dynamic ef fects leading to the measured response characteristics. Flow visualization for a transversely oscillating rectangular profile in water channel will be presented. Flow fields at the leading edge and trailing edge of the oscillating rectangular profile are analysed. Observed flow structures are classified and related to the simultaneously measured fluid forces and phase angles. The formation of vortical structures at the leading- and trailing-edge and the interaction of impinging leading-edge and trailing-edge vortices are presented in detail with flow visualisation for different oscillation frequencies and amplitudes and for an angle of attack of zero degree.  A general feature of the flow patterns is the superpositon of a series of phenomena. The separation at the leading-edge produces unstable shear-layers , leading to smallscale Bloor – Gerrard vortices . In the far wake behind the  rectangular profile , the shear-layers reorganize to the von Karman vortex street. Flow separation, vortex formation, interaction of the vortices, and vortex coalescence are observed from the flow visualisations and analysed in more detail. The shear layers separated from the leading edges impinge  alternately on the upper and lower surfaces and play an essential role in case of the rectangular profile with L / D = 2

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
