Serious games (SGs) are motivational and practical pedagogical tools that have been widely used in design education. SGs seem to be an efficient way to give instructions on innovation processes (IPs) as they can offer unique and engaging environments to support situated learning. While there has been much interest in SGs of the IPs type, no framework has been proposed to reduce the complexity and time consumption of their design process. This paper describes a framework for designing innovation SGs. The framework integrates eight general design methods for SGs. More importantly, it proposes an additional stage "analysis of traditional teaching experience" for designing innovation SGs. We use a case study to prove the value of the new stage from two perspectives: determine the innovation competencies to be taught; define game mechanics. This stage should help designers successfully making the transition from traditional innovation teaching towards SGs.

IDETC2020 - Virtual Conference

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
