It is different to study the switching behavior of the motion flow for hybrid dynamical system on state boundary compared with that for traditional system switching problems. The dynamical system for a morphing aircraft in the longitudinal direction can be described as a multi-degree-of-freedom hybrid dynamical system, for which each subsystem is represented by a set of nonlinear first order ordinary differential equations. When morphing aircraft switches from one state to another, the system properties such as wing sweep angle, moment inertia, and aerodynamic force coefficients etc. will be altered. In this paper, the discontinuous dynamic behavior for such a morphing aircraft for which the flow switches on the velocity boundary will be investigated. The analytical passable and non-passable conditions for flow switching on the boundary for such a dynamic system will be developed. For non-passable flows, the analytical conditions for onset and vanishing for flow sliding on the velocity boundary will also be given. Mapping structure will be used to describe the periodic motions of such a hybrid dynamical system of morphing aircraft. Numerical simulations for periodic and non-periodic motions will be illustrated. By varying frequency of thrust fluctuation, the bifurcation scenario will be calculated to show the complexity of such a hybrid dynamical system. Based on the analysis, the discontinuous dynamical characteristics for such a morphing aircraft switching on the velocity boundary can be obtained, and it might be useful for control design for such a dynamical system.

About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
