Generating the NC tool path for machining a complex shaped component is highly dependent on the proficiency of a Computer-Aided Manufacturing programmer in manufacturing field although the CAM system now are highly integrated. A Computer-aided Process Planning (CAPP) system, which can automatically extract the manufacturing features from the CAD model and plan the machining process, has long been expected. In this research, an automatic graph-based CAPP system was proposed. The system uses STEP files as the input file format. It mainly includes four modules, data conversion module, feature classification module, feature combination module and process planning module. The first two modules claim a graph-based feature recognition method, output the recognized result in a set of manufacturing features which are classified into four classes and defined as a specific type. The feature combination module generates different processing plans to combine features from a goal model into raw material shape by four kinds of combination methods corresponding to four classes of manufacturing features. Finally, the process planning part will give a cost estimation of all those paths with the consideration of manufacturing resources and time cost. A relatively optimized machining method and machining sequence will be calculated as the output of this proposed system.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
