Industries delve for a better solution in managing the heat related issues, where in many places, heat must be added, removed, or moved from one system to another. Conventional machining process is usually accompanied by heat generation and it is an inevitable phenomenon. Usage of different types of coolant helps in curtailing the heat produced and eradicate the detrimental effects such as surface hardening, tool wear, surface roughness and dimensional variations. Fluids, frequently used as coolants are water, ethylene glycol, and engine oil. Fluid based coolants have low heat transfer, when compared to solids. In the recent years, nanofluids embarked as a new class of fluids with improved thermophysical properties such as thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, viscosity, and convective heat transfer coefficients.  Nanofluid consists of two-phase system where the nano sized solid phase is dispersed into a base fluid. Many researchers have investigated the stability of nanofluids and introduced it in many applications with greater heat transfer potential. Graphene is a material which has two-dimensional planar geometry and introduced as a nanofluids in the field of heat transfer. Graphene can be used as a nanofluids coolant during the machining of materials, as the thermal conductivity is of the order of 5000 W/mK. The preparation and properties of graphene based nano fluids which can be used as coolant are studied in this work. Nanoparticles used in nanofluids preparation usually in the form of thin flakes with thickness below 20 nm. Particles as small as 50 nm, 100 nm has been used in this study. Two step technique is the extensively used method for preparing nanofluids. Nanoparticles used in this technique are first formed as dry powders by physical and chemical methods. Then the nano sized gauge powder is spread into a base fluid in the second dispensation step with the help of exact magnetic force trouble, ultrasonic shake up, high shear mixing. Inclusion of additives in small quantity, enhance the durability of the nano particles inside the conventional base fluids. The stability of the solid nano particles inside the conventional base fluid is increased by using surfactants. The heat transfer capacity and stability of the fluids are considered as the basic properties for investigation. The nanofluids characterization studies were drawn from the SEM, XRD, thermal conductivity, zeta potential test results. Hot wire method was used to determine the thermal conductivity of the nanofluids. The graphene nanofluids used as coolant had higher heat transfer performance than the pure fluid.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
