A series of novel 4-oxothiazolidin-3-yl-pyrimidin-2-one derivatives were synthesized. Condensation of 4-aminopyrimidin-2-one with aromatic aldehydes gave Schiff’s bases in excellent yields. The Schiff’s bases were reacted with mercapto acetic acid yielding 4-oxothiazolidin-3-yl-pyrimidin-2-one derivatives in good yield. These compounds were evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity. Most of the compounds exhibited moderate to good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive strain Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative strain Escherichia Coli and antifungal activity against two fungal strains Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans.
