Cationic starch (CS) has a widely range of application, for example in the paper, textile, oil, the cosmetics. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is one kind of right materials for cosmetics-making for its good moisture retention, biocompatibility and biodegradability, as well as easy gelling. CMC/CS/Ca2+ hydrogel masks were successfully prepared by solution blending and cyclic freeze-thaw methods with different mass ratio (dry weight) of CMC to CS. Furthermore, soybean peptide (SPE) with anti-oxidative activity was added into the CMC/CS/Ca2+ hydrogel masks. The results showed that the ratio of CMC: CS = 1: 1.6, its moisture retention moisture content was as high as 96.71% and the moisture retention rate could still be kept above 91.15%. The evaluation results of the sensory indexes and physicochemical indexes were that these hydrogel masks exhibited well gelatinizing, high transparency, good elasticity, high water content and no special aroma. At room temperature, the pHs of the hydrogel masks were between 6.5 and 7.3. After maintaining at 40 degree celsius or -8 degree celsius for 24 hours, there were no significant differences in shapes of the hydrogel masks. All of results above of the hydrogel masks conformed to the requirements of the standard of QB/T2872-2007.
