Current regulatory ground spray drift models (<i>e.g.</i>, AGDRIFT) are used for initial screening level assessments of spray drift. However, in many cases, the buffer distances predicted by such screening level spray drift models can be unrealistic when compared with field trials. However, field trials are time consuming and represent only single instance of environmental conditions. Regulators are in need of a higher tier mathematical model that can provide conservative yet realistic estimates of spray drift of pesticides when applied to arable crops (<i>i.e.</i>, ground-based applications). Therefore, a refined mechanistic ground spray drift model has been developed using the R programming language and can be accessed through a cloud-based R Shiny interface. The model is a mixture of a simplified description of spray sheet breakup, Lagrangian tracking of spray droplets through air in time, equations dealing with droplet evaporation, a representation of the horizontal wind profile, and an approximation of canopy effects. The presentation will provide an overview of the model and the interface followed by results from comparison with internal field data and select datasets from spray drift task force (SDTF) and SETAC drift risk assessment workshop (DRAW) databases.
