The GABAA receptor plays a very important role in the treatment of various psychological diseases. GABAA receptor is a pentameric chloride ion channel which can undergo ionic flux. The ligands that can activate the receptor will have effects such as anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative and so many other effects. Selectively modifying the core structure can result in a very good compound to treat depression like symptoms. Such a ligand is GL-II-73. It is a Imidazodiazepine which showed promising results and is capable of binding to the GABAA receptor and showed very good antidepressant effect. Many other ligands closely related to GL-II-73 is also synthesized and compared for their respective activity as a proper antidepressant drug. The design and synthesis along with some biological activity will be presented.
