In many cases, training resources are required to provide classes to a limited audience (3-4 people), or classes are delayed because of low class size and/or resource constraints. Station priorities, such as scheduled or forced outages, continuing training, pandemics, and vacations commonly impact the duration of initial training. These competing priorities delay the qualification of new employees. As a result, the worker is unable to perform work independently. The estimated cost to train a new hire may be upwards of $250,000, and it can take ~720 days from the hire date for the employee to become fully qualified.<br/><br/>There are portions of the training program content that may be applicable to any power generation facility (nuclear, coal, gas, solar, wind, hydrothermal, etc.). The resource requirements to maintain a stations accreditation often take precedence over delivering the chemistry (or any other discipline) program material in a learner focused fashion.<br/><br/>This EPRI Common Chemistry Training Initiative will standardize the Initial Chemistry Training Program at all Nuclear Power Stations by developing courses on common knowledge components that will be delivered with both synchronous and asynchronous implementation methods.
