With superior magnetic properties compared to other phases of iron oxide such as maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) and hematite (α-Fe2O3), magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles have been utilized in many applications such as cancer treatment, magnetic imaging, biosensing, and energy storage. In this work, we focused on the synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles having two different geometries, nanospheres (NSs) and nanocubes (NCs), in the multi-domain size range from 50 to 200 nm. The monodispersed magnetite NSs were synthesized using a solvothermal process in a mixed solvent system containing ethylene and diethylene glycols. The NCs with uniform size were prepared by thermal decomposition at elevated temperatures in dibenzyl ether. Subsequently, these nanoparticles were coated with TiO2 by controlling the hydrolysis of tetrabutyl orthotitanate before conversion to BaTiO3 and SrTiO3 ferroelectric shells by hydrothermal processes. These nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Moreover, vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) was used to determine their properties.
