This presentation will describe how the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) supports and enables the FAIR publication of crystal structure data for the benefit of user communities across sectors. It will also share insights from a collaborative project involving the CCDC and Curlew Research which is probing how a data organisation such as the CCDC can best support FAIR strategies for data-driven research in industry.<br/><br/>The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre provides scientific data, software and services to both academic and industrial user communities. At the heart of its activities is the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), a collection of over one million crystal structures published predominantly by the academic community. The CCDC plays a critical role in ensuring that the 80,000 plus datasets deposited annually are published in a manner that supports their discoverability and reuse. Through its software and services, it further ensures that structural chemistry knowledge derived from the CSD can be readily applied to real world problems being tackled by industry. The FAIR Data Principles provide a reference point that prompts consideration of new approaches that could better support the scientific data needs of diverse user communities.
