Intramolecular hydroamination of alkenes is an efficient method for the synthesis of saturated heterocycles, like pyrrolidines and piperidines. Early and late transition metal catalysts have been employed successfully for this purpose, however, dialkylamine substrates are minimally tolerated and high temperatures are often required. Cope-type hydroamination can proceed under relatively mild conditions, although the higher oxidation state of the substrates and products can present synthetic difficulties.<sup>1</sup> An approach using an in-situ oxygen transfer enables Cope-type hydroamination to occur without direct use or isolation of hydroxylamines or <i>N</i>-oxides. The development of this temporary redox modification approach, as applied to hydroamination, will be discussed.
