The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University is committed to providing each student with a quality education in a safe and healthy environment that is conducive to learning. We provide our students with a knowledge of the main principles, facts, concepts, and theories of the chemical sciences; knowledge and appreciation of one’s environment; analytical, mathematical, and critical thinking skills; scientific and technical literacy; and decision-making skills to prepare them for their careers. It is the goal of the Department of Chemistry to provide our students with a safety program that is committed to their health and well-being and is designed to teach them safe work practices that will serve them for life. Everyone in the department contributes to the positive safety culture. Our faculty, staff, and students understand that a successful safety program requires the daily commitment of everyone to ensure that we maintain a healthy environment in which to teach, learn, and conduct research. Safety continues to be our first priority as we prepare our students for careers in industry, academia, the health sciences, and government.
