The formation of molecular triplet states allows for interesting excited-state interactions such as photon upconversion (and downconversion) and the storage of excitation energy in the long-lived triplet. Lead halide perovskites have gathered recent attention due to their facile sensitization of molecular triplets in both thin films and nanomaterials. In this talk, recent insights into the sensitization of well-studied molecular triplets (e.g. pyrene) using CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots will be discussed. The CsPbBr3-pyrene interaction was found to be dependent on the morphology of the perovskite quantum dot, with CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets interacting more strongly than nanocubes, as evidenced by photoluminescence quenching and lifetime measurements. Additionally, beyond the nanocrystals sensitizing pyrene triplets, we see evidence of pyrene engaging in energy or charge transfer from pyrene into CsPbBr3. These results shed light on the rich and complex landscape of excited state interactions in perovskite-molecular systems.
