<br/>Porous materials are applicable to nanofluidics, to catalysis, and for gas storage. They can be used as tunable nano environments to stabilize reactive species or facilitate selective reactions. Our group has focused on macrocyclic building blocks that are constructed from urea groups and organic C-shaped spacers. These simple building blocks are remarkably robust and assemble in high fidelity to give columnar structures. Herein, we examine the activation and utility of host prepared by the self-assembly of triphenylamine <i>bis</i>-urea macrocycles. In particular, these materials will be applied in a simple vapor loading technique for the enrichment of isomeric mixtures of xylene. The host exhibits selectivity towards loading linear isomers, which better match the topology of the 1-dimentional channel. These host:guest complexes were independently prepared by single-crystal-to-single-crystal guest exchange. We will also examine the utility of this host as a container to facilitate the oligomerization and polymerization of monomers including pyrrole.
