With the business case for recruiting and retaining diverse teams well-established, the discussion has shifted to building best practices for implementing inclusive hiring practices. In particular, we must recognize that bias is present and has an impact in all aspects of the hiring process. Much of the work in dismantling bias should be happening on the side of the employer, however, as a candidate considering both an employment opportunity and an employer, you have an important job in evaluating where a company is in their journey. Being thoughtful about the questions you ask, the behaviors you observe, and the feedback you receive along the way can help you as a candidate better understand the company’s culture. In this session, we’ll discuss how to identify an employer who is looking to do more than just provide lip service with regard to diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect (DEIR). With these tools in hand, you’ll be better prepared to find the company that will respect you and your unique identity.
