Traditional cathode production of lithium-ion batteries uses polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) binder and n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as solvent. There are more and more regulations globally to restrict the use of NMP for health and safety concerns. A pre-formulated NMP-free cathode binder has been developed that eliminates the use of NMP, and significantly improves operational safety and regulatory compliance. In addition, this binder product enables remarkable enhancement on manufacturing efficiency and operating flexibility. It has also demonstrated better or equal battery performances than traditional PVDF-NMP binder.
