Hydrogen peroxide is a benign chemical oxidant with applications ranging from industry to household, including paper bleaching, wastewater treatment, and sterilization, especially for the pathogenic SARS-CoV-2. Hydrogen peroxide is also an ideal green energy carrier comparable to that of compressed hydrogen gas and a medium for energy storage. Electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide continues to attract a lot of attention for onsite distributed production of this valuable chemical due to its sustainability and ease of adaptability. In this talk, I will summarize our recent efforts in designing catalyst materials for the electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide.
