In Chemistry, one role of catalysts is to facilitate chemical transformations by lowering energetic barriers.  Similarly in education, there are new ideas, policies, and ways of thinking that can catalyze changes in our educational spaces that lower barriers for people to thrive. For LGBTQ+ students, educators, and employees at colleges and universities this means adjusting long standing practices from the classroom to institutional benefits. This presentation will focus on work done in the classroom to make space for LBGTQ+ students in chemistry and how this work is leading to a call for equitable benefits and policies for LGBTQ +employees in education.
