Seco-prezizaane sesquiterpenes from the Illicium species of plants have garnered significant attention from the synthetic community due to their complex structures and potent bioactivity. In 2012, (2R)-hydroxynorneomajucin was isolated from the dried pericarps of Illicium jiadifengpi and represents the first nor-sesquiterpenoid isolated from the Illicium genus. This compound was reported to promote neurite outgrowth in fetal rat cortical neurons at low concentrations. Our group has been developing divergent routes to access (2R)-hydroxynorneomajucin and related seco-prezizaane sesquiterpenoids.
