A crucial concern for molten salt reactor (MRS) development is the availability of thermodynamic descriptions of its fuel or coolant. Fortunately, using the CALPHAD approach, system models and calculations of multicomponent phase diagrams are readily prepared, and a large database can be developed to describe and predict phase behavior under MSR conditions. In this work, we revisit the subsystems of LiCl-NaCl-KCl-UCl3 in the light of new experimental measurements carried out by our group. The results, coupled with an estimation of enthalpy of mixing for LiCl-UCl3 and KCl-UCl3 subsystems using a correlational approach, allowed us to have adequate data subsystems to enable the complete optimization of LiCl-NaCl-KCl-UCl3. This key system has now been included in the Molten Salt Thermal Properties Database-Thermochemical (MSTDB-TC) and available to those interested in modeling MSR salt behavior.
