Tap water is one of the important sources of drinking water in modern society. Seoul, the capital city of Korea, has a population of about 10 million people who use tap water, and it is about 100% supplied. The quality of tap water in Korea is very important because it is used in a wide range. In this study, microplastics from six water treatment plants that supply tap water in Seoul, Korea, were analyzed by μ-Raman spectroscopy for the particles greater than 1 um diameter. Spectroscopic analysis of microplastics is known to require labor and time-consuming. Therefore, we have made efforts to improve the optimized method for faster and more accurate analysis using μ-Raman spectroscopy. The collection of each sample was performed at the point before it is supplied to individual households to assess the quality of discharged water from the drinking water treatment plant.
