Developing novel methods of antibacterial sensing is crucial to prevent negative consequences from bacterial resistance and open opportunities for new antibacterial drugs. One such method is using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as biosensors by removing the imprinted template molecule which will open an area for a target molecule to bind to. So far, the followed procedure includes the preparation of polymer solutions and spin-coating them on a substrate which can be further analyzed using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and sum frequency generation spectroscopy (SFG) which yields topographical and morphological images of the polymer solutions on the surface of the substrate. The group will continue to design and test methods to selectively bind a target molecule to the site where the template molecule has been removed.
